Local Community Service (LOCUS)

It is always true that a country’s leadership in the future depends on the condition of Muslim youth today. Therefore, it is a pertinent need to emphasize on the development of competent human capital. However, students often have less exposure on how to become leaders especially in rural communities. Thus, we also want to contribute in this important effort by organizing a Local Community Services (LOCUS) at selected needy school.

After some research, the most suitable place to achieve this noble mission is the Sabah Muslim community. This is because Sabah population is more difficult to get such exposure opportunity compared with the community of the peninsula. The need is urged more by the lacking of Islamic awareness as this matter is always being mislooked by related parties. So, we have decided to continue the mega project series of LOCUS to Sabah. We have selected SMA Al-Irsyadiah Marakau, Ranau which situated at the rural area with limited resources and teachers.

To ensure the holistic module for the students, we have two main focuses in this programme. Firstly, we wish to improve the integration and empowerment of Muslim leadership among the students leaders through combination of modules and activities that has proven effective in shaping the students .Secondly, we want to establish an education relationship between IIUM  with Muslim communities of Sabah in Dakwah’s perspective. For long term period, we hope that this project will inspire others especially the Sabahan’s IIUM alumni to spread the word of Islam and empower the efforts of Dakwah there in accordance with the theme “Tarbiyyah Miftahul Qiyadah”.

In brief, this mission is corresponding with the vision of IIUM itself. We wish for group of future leaders with holy Islamized paradigm, internationalized way of thinking, integrated competencies towards comprehensive excellence in this world and afterlife, as simple as Triple ICE. Wallahua’lam.
